History of Purr-fect Companions Sanctuary

catbed200
In 2004, a call for help went out from an animal shelter in Cleveland, Ohio. The owner had taken in over 100 cats from two hoarder homes in another county. The cats came from deplorable conditions - some had lived in windowless rooms with only artificial light by day. Others lived in 6 x 8 pens covered with chicken wire and kept in a warehouse. They did not know what litter pans were and were never vaccinated, spayed or neutered. When the owner of the original shelter announced the shelter would be closing and the city would be taking the cats, most likely euthanizing them, the founder and Executive Director of Purr-fect Companions Sanctuary, Ann Wilson, sprang into action. With the help of volunteers, she purchased and renovated a facility in Cleveland to house the cats in one half and placed a caretaker in the other half. In early September of 2007, over 100 cats were moved to their new home at Purr-fect Companions Sanctuary where they could roam free without cages - as close to "home" as a shelter can be. Since then, the Sanctuary has found homes for many of them and have taken in others. Once acclimated to the shelter and liter-box trained, they socialize with other cats and humans to prepare for adoption. We have cats of all ages all with their own unique personalities. Make an appointment to visit us and open your heart and loving home to one or more of our residents.

Our Goals and Passion

heartcatsAt Purr-fect Companions Sanctuary, we have created an environment where rescued, disabled and senior cats are treated with unconditional love. Our cats live in a free-roaming environment where they socialize with volunteers people and other cats. We take the time every day to stimulate our cats' minds and bodies through active play, brushing and petting, making sure they all get the individualized attention that they need to thrive in a forever home.

If you have any questions, are looking to adopt a cat, wish to donate or, become a volunteer, please contact us. Thank you!

Please consider adopting a cat from Purr-fect Companions Sanctuary.

Thank you for your contribution!

This will to help continue our mission to help cats from different circumstances have a second chance at finding their FOREVER  home.

By donating, asking for information, or willingness to help us on our mission, you will receive our Bi Annual Newsletter with information of past and present events, adoptions, new arrivals are listed. If you do not want to receive them you can unsubscribe at the bottom of the newsletter.

We often ask those within our area to help with areas of our sanctuary and the cats.  We have had business and corporations donate some time to the sanctuary for yard work and clean up along with repairs and upgrades to the facility.  If you know of a contractor who might be willing to "Give Back to the Community" (licensed and insured preferred) who might help with some projects or repairs.  Or anyone who might have skills which would help the cats or organization further our cause and continue to help cats from the Cleveland area.  Please contact us via email or phone and ask how you can help.

If you have a passion for Cats and assisting us in finding the Cats new homes or to help us continue our mission please contact Ann: purrfectcompanions@att.net

WW 2017 event flyer tnWe are so excited to host another yearly fundraiser!

This is our major annual fundraiser for the Sanctuary.  We ask our friends, family, and community to participate with us and help us raise crucial dollars to pay for of our expenses and ensure we can properly care of the cats with:
     Comprehensive and Emergency Medical care
     Medicines
     Nutritious and Healthful foods
A free roaming cat community to ensure emotional well being
On-going maintenance and improvements to facility
A kitten named Clover came to us, and shortly thereafter ended up in the ER and ICU with Bronchial Pneumonia with his left lung compromised. At three pounds, the danger to her tiny body of not eating, even for a day or so, could have had fatal consequences. But she began showing interest in baby food by the end of the fourth day and returned to the shelter when she was finally able to breathe on room air alone. An extended time on antibiotics saved his life.  The costs ran into the thousands of dollars and devastated our limited financial resources.  This is one story that has happened to some degree in the 10+ years of our journey.

With 40 other cats under our roof – a number of whom are long-term residents and require ongoing special care – we are in urgent need of financial help to keep our shelter operational and continue the care we offer to all of our cats.

cat36We would greatly appreciate your attendance and to assist us in raising the necessary funds to continue to care for the cats (some are long term residents)  Our team of volunteers are making every effort to make it a wonderful evening for each and everyone of you!
Without your continued support, we could not continue to help these cats and kittens.  You are the foundation that enables us to do what we do.
No donation is too small!

Pet owners understand the cost associated with caring for their pet or pets. Food, vaccinations, flea control, toys, beds and medical assistance when needed – it all adds up far too quickly sometimes. Shelters deal with financial challenges every day. Regardless of whether our economy is up or down, abandoned and lost pets who have found their way to any shelter need the continued generosity of others for food, shelter and medical care. “No kill” shelters are located in most states, and costs can be staggering. Fortunately, pet food companies like to help out. However, most shelters still rely on the generosity of individuals who can donate money to help pay for everyday expenses, medical treatments and medications for those animals who are sick.

hr

We are a small local shelter that can no longer accepts unwanted or stray cats simply because of our small yearly budget.  Our shelter helps local residents pay for spaying and neutering so money is extremely tight for them. We do receive some donations of food, which is a big help, and people are passionate about promoting spaying and neutering to help reduce the number of kittens born that may become the next generation of homeless pets. Most no kill shelters actively promote and educate the public on the importance of responsible pet ownership to help people understand why they should alter their pet. In order to help our shelter, which is at full capacity, a handful of us try to take in pets needing a home. Sometimes it’s only for a short period until that pet can be placed in a new home, but usually we become their new caretakers. So I understand the cost associated with caring for multiple pets.

Money isn’t the only way you can donate to the Purr-fect Companions. You can help out by giving your local shelter time. You could be asked to help with office work, organize donation campaigns, groom pets, unload donations of pet food, play with cats, clean cages or even be a foster parent for a pet needing some TLC after an illness or surgery. Time is just as important and appreciated as money if you can’t make a cash donation. Shelters depend on volunteers to help stretch their yearly budgets.

We do understand that money can be tight for most people at this time.  Consider volunteering your talents and abilities to further our cause.

We do have outstanding verterinarian bills, most of the time, as we try to pay down our balances. We thank all of those who have donated in the past!  We wouldn't be here without their help.  We want to continue to help cats who are in need, but without donations, this is an impossible task.  We are 100% Volunteer and Community involved non-profit.  It is through the volunteers that assist with daily care, our website, social media, fundraising, raising awareness and promoting what we do for cats and kittens and keep them from euthanization.  We keep our address hidden from the public to keep people from "dropping off" cats on the doorstep, without any information on them, which in turn costs the Sanctuary more money with vet tests and possible treatments.  This is a major issue for shelters and sanctuaries accross the US.

We don't have the resouces that Cleveland APL and other County agencies have.  We are trying!  But it takes volunteers to help make those contacts and recieve the help.

Please consider making a donation, however large or small it will help us continue to help the cats.

If you would like to volunteer and donate some time, we would love to speak with you.  It all makes a difference!

missyOnce you have found a cat or two, or more...contact us via our contact form or by phone and leave a message with your name, phone and any questions you may have. Please be patient, as we will get back to you. If you are interested in a particular cat, please download our Adoption Application, print it out and complete it. It may seem long, but we want to be careful in matching our residents with new, forever homes. When we contact you, we will set up a time for you to visit the shelter and review your application. Our best viewing time is between 1-4pm Monday through Friday, but we can also arrange for a special time if necessary. You will speak with the Director or one of our great Volunteers and have a chance to socialize and meet the cats. You are encouraged to make more than one visit to the shelter if undecided about a cat. The adoption committee reviews all adoption requests carefully, so we cannot allow cats to leave on your first visit to the shelter. Finding a perainent home with a loving companion is priority #1!

Please note: Our shelter is located in a private building and not open to the general public to maintain privacy for the cats. We are almost always full and cannot handle drop-offs of unwanted kittens and cats from the public. Please keep our address conrfidential so that the cats we are able to take in can be cared for appropriately by our volunteers.

We look forward to findhing great homes for our cats and welcome all serious inquiries.

Purr-fect Companions brings you......CATS!

"Every 13 seconds a Cat or Dog is killed due to the pet over population in the United States."  The pet overpopulation is at a critical level in Ohio.

Purr-fect Companions Sanctuary has provided so many Cats a second chance in finding a FOREVER home. Even so, we are limited to the number of cats we can take in and often have to turn many away. Overcrowding does not promote good health, and some cats get very stressed if not able to find some quiet place of their own. Our cats roam free throughout the shelter unless sick or is a new cat in isolation before being released into the population. Residents that are not adopted, grow old with dignity among their friends and family at the Sanctuary.

None of our cats are ever euthenized unless quality of life is compromised due to illness or other complication.

Many dedicated volunteers help take care of the cats and the day-to-day shelter operations. Withouth them and those who help with planning, promoting adoptions and fundraising, we could not give these rescues a second chance at finding a home or have what they need to live their life with dignity and love. We are always seeking passionate cat lovers or kind-hearted people to help out in the many areas within our organization. Our need is great, and any amount of time is appreciated. Bring your talent and passion to Purr-fect Companions Sanctuary!
